Season One
An open call to the local community was launched to invite artists and performers to help define this public space, and be involved in the creation and direction of the artery. The inaugural year of a performance series on the artery, known as Season One, took place in 2014. 116 different local artists and groups answered this call, 20 of which received funding from ArtPlace America to perform. beintween entered into dialogue with these performers, asking what they would like to see in a public space. This showcase of local talent welcomed the Harambee and Riverwest neighborhoods to celebrate, imagine, and build community through art, food, and entertainment in its first year. The 20 winning entries and what they needed helped direct the development and implementation of an infrastructure to support a number of performers and an audience as well.
